Phoenix
While traveling through rural Warren County, NJ on Wednesday, June 27, 2007, I passed the Mill Stone Farm where I noticed a farrier service trailer, owned by Ken Warren, of Kenneth Warren Farrier Services, backed into the driveway at the farm. It was apparent to me that it must have been a day of mancures for some resident horses, so I turned my vehicle around, returned to the farm to try and get a few pictures. One of the farm hands told me Ken was the guy to speak to and that he was a nice guy and he thought he'd allow me to take a few pictures. I proceeded to introduced myself to Ken, who is a great guy and had no problem with me to capturing a few images of him at work applying his much invaluable trade to a 7-year-old Dutch warmblood horse named Phoenix. Phoenix, a horse imported from Holland, was having her turn at the near monthly farrier service, which includes the removal of his old shoes, hooves mancured and a new set of shoes customed fitted. Ken assured me horses feel no pain while this service is bring performed. Hooves are just like fingernails, the have no nerve endings and need to be maintained as they grow.
